Pulley making by mattius @ 18-02-11 23:31

After ditching the electric water pump, i wanted to make sure the mechanical one was as lightweight as possible so as not to add any weight to the front of the car. I bought the alloy housing from canley classics, but their alloy pump is silly expensive and more importantly not rebuildable. So i kept the steel pump as they are cheap to replace, but the steel pulley weighs a lot, so i went on a hunt to get an alloy pulley.
No one makes one, not for the spit anyway, racetorations make one for TR's but this might not fit and was £70 odd pounds. Next up i though i will buy a block of alloy and machine it, however at £50 for the amount of alloy needed, and given half of it would be waste i wasnt too chuffed with that idea either.
Then i stumbled accross a seller on ebay selling alloy pulleys for industrial machines, i worked out if i cut the front off the steel pulley and machine it to be a compression fit on the alloy pulley from ebay, then machine out the rear of the pulley it would be identical.
So all in for £20 i managed to make an alloy waterpump pulley.
